The stadium was built in 1928 and took centre stage in the 1960 Rome Olympics as the opening and closing ceremonies and athletics events were staged there.
The stadium held six matches during the 1990 FIFA World Cup including the Final which was won by West Germany. Currently it is home to the capital's two major football teams - AS Roma and SS Lazio - who share the ground for their home league games in Serie A.
With the stadiums capacity so high, the Stadio Olimpico has had its fair share of music acts including Elton John, Tina Turner, Bruce Springsteen and Madonna.
The Azzuri moved to the Olimpico for the 2012 Six Nations beating Scotland that year and France and Ireland a year later in the 2013 Championship.
